Counting working days between two dates

This date calculator excludes weekends and holidays and tells you how many business days sit between any two dates. By default both the start and end dates are counted when they are working days, which is the same convention as Excel's NETWORKDAYS. If you want the number of working days remaining after today, untick "count the start date".

Along with the headline number you get the calendar-day total, how many of those were weekend days, and a list of every public holiday in the range, so the arithmetic is fully visible: calendar days = working days + weekend days + holidays.

Holidays by country

Choose the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia or Germany and the national public holidays for every year in your range are excluded automatically, including observed and substitute days. Regional holidays (US state holidays, Scottish bank holidays, Bavarian feast days and so on) are not included by design; paste them into the custom box, one per line, and they are excluded as well.

Common questions this answers

In Excel or Google Sheets

Use =NETWORKDAYS(start, end, holidays), where holidays is a range containing the dates to skip. For a custom weekend use NETWORKDAYS.INTL. The catch is that you have to maintain the holiday list yourself and remember the observed-date rules; this page ships with the lists built in. Need a date rather than a count? Use the add business days calculator.

Frequently asked questions

Are the start and end dates included?

By default yes, when they fall on working days — matching Excel's NETWORKDAYS. Either end can be excluded with the checkboxes.

How is "working day" defined?

Any day that is not a ticked weekend day and not a public holiday of the selected country (or a custom date you entered).

Can I count a six-day week, Monday to Saturday?

Yes — untick Saturday so only Sunday counts as the weekend. There is a dedicated page for this: the date calculator excluding Sundays.

What is the maximum range?

Fifty years. Anything between 1900 and 2100 works.
